In the age of technology, social media is becoming more and more popular, being able to reach people from all across the globe without leaving the comfort of your own home. So it’s only smart for the majority of the world's musicians and artists to use this as an advertising and promotional platform.
Social media gives artists the ability to build a fanbase, and share content and may allow some artists to privately connect with fans. With the use of paid advertisements, promoting ones self has never been easier. As one of the most powerful assets of using social media, artists are able to develop a stronger relationship with their fanbases through the use of platforms such as Instagram and TikTok which allow you to stream a live feed in real-time.
Social media is the easiest and most cost-effective way to basically sell yourself. The more people notice you, the more songs they download and word of mouth it's only a short while until you’re officially verified and have that cute blue tick next to your name.
So why are so many artists using social media? Why are they on so many platforms? Surely it’s overkill, right?
Well, I guess the answer is because we as consumers cannot get enough of
celebrity gossip and all of the latest pictures etc, and do you know why? Because our favorite artists utilise the importance of social media marketing. They lead us to their pages with snippets of their newest song, which then leads us to scrolling 173 weeks into their feed and you get the picture.
The importance of their social media presence is what makes us feel
connected as if we have a personal relationship with them and that in itself is marketing. Artists use and sometimes abuse social media platforms often over-sharing which can potentially lead to their own self-destruction and ruination of them as a musician/artists. The reality is these days it seems that everyone has jumped on the social media bandwagon,
whatever happened to the good days of grabbing the CD album looking for that one favorite song you would play again and again, praying the CD wasn’t too scratched. Nowadays all music is just a click away, Spotify, YouTube, Soundcloud the list goes on; with one word you’re able to search the background of an artist, all of their tracks from the very first to the last one produced. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
Nowadays, all artist use social media; from your newly up and coming, to your award winning Tion Wayne and Dave. Its not just these artists raising awareness of the music, but you also have platforms like ourselves, EarplugUK. Lables and independent artist utilise platforms like EarplugUK to reach new audiences and help create a buzz around their latest music.
